This subject focuses on a critical-reflective approach to educational practices and beliefs highlighting the importance of discussion and dialogue in the development of our understanding of educational issues. It explores the ways in which these forces interact in the Australian context to influence educational outcomes. Through and introduction to social theory the subject enables the development of an understanding of the social, cultural, economic and political forces shaping education in Australia and globally. The goal of understanding the world’s rich cultural heritage invites the IB community to explore human commonality, diversity and interconnection. To increase intercultural understanding, IB programmes foster learning how to appreciate critically many beliefs, values, experiences and ways of knowing. Intercultural understanding involves recognizing and reflecting on one’s own perspective, as well as the perspectives of others. All IB programmes require students to learn another language. IB programmes, therefore, support complex, dynamic learning through wide-ranging forms of expression. Multilingualism and intercultural understandingįor the IB, learning to communicate in a variety of ways in more than one language is fundamental to the development of intercultural understanding. These explorations help students to become international minded individuals, with shared guardianship of the planet. Global Context serves as a focus area through which learners explores ideas, find out connections between subject areas and apply their acquired knowledge to solve real life problem. MYP develops holistic learning, international mindedness and intercultural awareness in the learners by engaging them to explore subject group through the six Global Contexts.
